Helen Wang
What is your current role, or what are you working on?
I am a partner in Carey Olsen’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice in Singapore. I specialise in complex commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, insolvency and restructuring, estate, and private clients-related disputes in offshore jurisdictions, such as BVI, Cayman Islands and Bermuda. I have always enjoyed being a litigator and find great satisfaction in helping my clients navigate and resolve their issues.
What is your proudest achievement?
Winning first prize in the CCCS-ESS essay competition on the same day I delivered my firstborn was a memorable moment. The competition focused on competition law, an area I had worked to develop in my previous role. I submitted my essay when I was still very new to Singapore, having moved here just a year and a half earlier. It proved to me that I can achieve professionally while embracing motherhood and served as a powerful reminder that motherhood does not limit ambition.
There are now 25 hours in a day! How would you spend your extra hour?
If there were 25 hours in a day, I’d use the extra hour to exercise regularly, spend quality time with my family, enjoy board games with my husband and friends, and revisit my past hobby of Chinese painting. There’s so much I’d love to explore and do.
If you weren't a lawyer, what would you do?
If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be a farmer. I had the opportunity to farm in Australia and France during my university days. Connecting with nature and living a simpler, more sustainable life would be a fulfilling path for me.
Your favourite food haunt is...?
